Quickstart

Send telemetry to HopMetric in five minutes using the OpenTelemetry Collector.

1. Create an API key

From the dashboard, open Settings → API keys and create a key scoped to an environment. Keep it in an environment variable:

export HOPMETRIC_API_KEY=hmk_live_xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

2. Point your collector at the endpoint

exporters:
  otlp/hopmetric:
    endpoint: connect.api.hopmetric.net:443
    tls: { insecure: false }
    headers:
      x-api-key: ${HOPMETRIC_API_KEY}

service:
  pipelines:
    traces:  { receivers: [otlp], exporters: [otlp/hopmetric] }
    metrics: { receivers: [otlp], exporters: [otlp/hopmetric] }

3. Verify the stream

Use grpcurl to confirm the endpoint is reachable and TLS terminates correctly:

grpcurl -authority connect.api.hopmetric.net \
  -H "x-api-key: $HOPMETRIC_API_KEY" \
  connect.api.hopmetric.net:443 opentelemetry.proto.collector.trace.v1.TraceService/Check
A healthy endpoint returns SERVING. If you see a TLS error, confirm your client trusts the public CA chain — HopMetric uses standard publicly-trusted certificates.

4. See your data

Open the dashboard; traces and metrics appear within a few seconds of the first export.
